The American Red Cross has made available all of the relief supplies from its warehouse in Panama which would provide for basic needs for approximately 5,000 families. In addition, it is deploying a disaster management specialist to Haiti, and has additional disaster specialists on standby if needed. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) medical teams in Port-au-Prince are treating large numbers of people who suffered fractures, head injuries and other major trauma during and after the January 12 earthquake. More than 1,000 patients have received care in the four tented facilities MSF, and an inflatable MSF field hospital, equipped with two operating theatres, is expected to arrive by air in the next 24 hours. Crucial personnel, including surgeons and anesthetists, and supplementary stocks of medical supplies are on the way as well. One MSF charter flight stocked with staff and supplies has already flown into Haiti carrying 25 tons of relief material—tents, medical disaster kits, blankets, plastic sheeting, jerrycans, and hygiene and cooking sets.

In the wake of the worst disaster to strike Haiti in decades, Mission to the World is prepared to meet the terrible needs that country will face over the next months and years. MTW's Disaster Response Ministry is gathering information about needs and security in the country so that disaster teams can be readied to go in to provide further assistance. Since this ministry works in concert with Presbyterian churches and missionaries whenever a disaster strikes, they will plan the response together with them. They will have medical teams, counseling teams, and construction teams available as soon as they know more about deployment.
