The Super Fund of Middle Georgia
Little Money Big Results. That’s the idea behind The Super Fund, created by The 11th Hour, and the Community Foundation of Central Georgia. Crowdfunding describes the collective cooperation, attention and trust by people who network and pool their money together, usually via the Internet, in order to support efforts initiated by other people or organizations. This is exactly what the Super Fund aims to do. We all want to make our community a better place to be, and each year, the readers of the 11th Hour will identify two causes that will benefit from a pool of money that we, as a community, create. The idea is that even if we don’t have thousands to give to causes we believe in, we can pool just the change in our pockets together and make a huge difference. If 200 people commit to give just $10 a month to this fund, we would have $24,000 a year to give away. The Super Fund gives you the opportunity to give a small amount, on a monthly basis to causes that help improve the quality of life in Macon, Georgia.
Your contributions for through September 30, 2010 will support the following organizations:
Cox Capitol Theatre
Cox Capitol Theatre is a symbol of community and a cornerstone in the revitalization effort of downtown Macon. We present a diverse programming that attracts a varied audience, including family and classic film; local, regional and national musical artists; and live theatre offered in a unique dinner theatre setting. We like to partner with other organizations that share our vision of a vibrant downtown – presenting concerts with Big House Foundation and serving as a venue for The Macon Film Festival and Bragg Jam. The theatre is beautifully restored – and expensive to operate and maintain.
We recently launched a fundraising campaign with the goal of 1.3 million dollars to fund façade improvements, equipment upgrades, stage and lighting enhancement, kitchen expansion as well as provide operational support and pay off the original renovation loan. Ticket income accounts for less than one quarter of total income and is supplemented by income from private rentals. Fundraisers and contributions from individuals, corporations and foundation grants fund almost half of the theatre’s expenses.
Your donation to the Super Fund helps us keep the doors open, the projector running, and the stage rocking. Thanks for your support.
Georgia Music Hall of Fame
The Georgia Music Hall of Fame preserves and interprets the state’s rich music heritage through programs of preservation, education, exhibition and performance. Located in the heart of downtown Macon, the museum shares the stories of over 100 inductees including The Allman Brothers Band, Ray Charles, Alan Jackson, Dr. Thomas Dorsey, Brenda Lee, Jessye Norman, Otis Redding, R.E.M., Little Richard and many more. As steward of these legacies, the Music Hall of Fame welcomes visitors from all over the world to Macon and provides educational programs for students of all ages.
The State of Georgia has provided generous financial support to the development and upkeep of the Music Hall of Fame in Macon since it opened in 1996. That funding, however, has been reduced significantly in the past two years. Now, more than ever, memberships and private contributions provide vital support necessary to sustain the museum and grow its programs. MIKE, Music in Kids Education, provides year-round live music performances for children, including First Saturdays with Pam Blanchard, Second Thursday performances by artists from Young Audiences/Woodruff Arts Center October through May annually and the Otis Redding Singer/Songwriter Camp for ages 12-17 each June.
